Peichi-isms
Posted on April 1st, 2009 1 commentAnyone who knows Peichi knows that she (like anyone, really) has her own way of talking. I’m not just talking about her accent. I’m talking about words and phrases that she has either come up with on her own, or uses in a way that is particular to her. Keep in mind, I am in no way making fun of her. She has a Bachelors degree from Taiwan, then moved to America and got her Masters degree here, at a good school, in all English classes. She outscored almost all of the native English speakers in her class. She is smarter than almost anyone I know, speaks 3 languages fluently, and several others enough to get by. She speaks more Spanish than I do too, which is a language that people in Asia don’t have any familiarity with, but I have grown up around my whole life. She just sees the English language from a different perspective.
I don’t make this any easier for her. I think her little Peichi-isms are one of the cutest things about her. I usually add them to my vocabularly, making myself sound retarded when I say the words/phrases that make her sound cute. Here are a couple:
Mixtry - When the weatherman has predicted a Wintry-mix of snow/sleet/rain. This captures the sense of unknown. There might be snow.
Gibster - A cute ghostlike thing. It is really supposed to be Casper, but she likes Gibster more. Anything that is kind of cute ghostlike is one.One response to “Peichi-isms”
